Beko is recalling a wide range of frost free fridge freezers because they may catch fire. The problem occurs if water gets into the defrost timer. This can cause the timer to overheat and catch fire. According to the London Fire Brigade 20 house fires in London are believed to have been caused by these fridge freezers since 2008. Click here to see the London Fire Brigade press release.

What Should Consumers Do
If you own one of these products, please check the serial number of your fridge freezer. The serial number is on the rating plate inside the fridge compartment and is 10 or 12 digits long. The first 2 digits of the serial number give the year of production.
Please contact Beko if you have one of the models shown above and it has a serial number beginning with 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, or 06.
If you own an affected Beko fridge freezer, or if you are unsure if your fridge freezer is affected, please call Beko on 0800 917 2018. Beko will arrange to visit your home and make the modification to the product at no charge to you.
Further details can be found on the Beko Fridge Freezer Recall website where you can check if your fridge freezer is affected.
Reuters Special Report
In October 2011 Reuters released a special report that uncovers some key issues with the way that Beko initially managed this recall. See Reuters Special Report for more details.
This recall was originally put on our site in the middle of April 2011. We were asked by Beko to remove it from our site as they did not believe it was a recall, they preferred to call it re-work. In July, when it became apparent how serious the fire situation was and after consultation with Trading Standards we put this information back on our site. It is very clearly a recall.
